Silverstein (English pronounced "Silverstien") is a Canadian post-hardcore band from Burlington, Ontario, founded in 2000 . The band took its name from the author Shel Silverstein, who died shortly before the band was founded . In 2006 they were the opening act for Simple Plan on their Germany tour. In addition, in 2007, 2008 and 2011 they each had an appearance at Rock am Ring and Rock im Park as well as two other tours through Germany and Europe where they were headliners. Today Forever from Germany played in the opening act . From November to December 2009 Silverstein toured as the opening act for the Canadian rock band Billy Talent through Germany, Austria, Switzerland and the Czech Republic.
history
Silverstein was founded in 2000 in Burlington, Ontario by Shane Told, Richard McWalter, Bill Hamilton, Paul Koehler, and Josh Bradford .
In the first year of its existence, the band recorded their first EP on their own. Shortly thereafter, Richard McWalter left the band and was replaced by Neil Boshart.
Two years later their second EP was released, which brought them a recording contract with the Victory Records label , which released their first album When Broken Is Easily Fixed in May 2003 . Several tours followed with other bands such as As I Lay Dying or Hawthorne Heights .
They recorded their second album, Discovering the Waterfront , in 2005, directed by Cameron Webb.
This was followed by other tours such as the “Never Sleep Again” tour with Hawthorne Heights , Bayside and Aiden , which came to a tragic, premature end when John “Beatz” Holohan, the drummer from Bayside, was killed in a car accident.
After a three-month break, they began work on their next album, Arrivals & Departures , which was released in early July 2007. In addition, they worked in 2007 with an acoustic version of Red Light Pledge on the project Punk Goes Acoustic 2 , in which bands such as +44 or Anti-Flag are also represented.
They also worked in 2009 with a cover version of Apologize ( OneRepublic ) on the project Punk goes Pop II .
On March 31, 2009, their fourth studio album, A Shipwreck in the Sand, was released internationally.
On April 26, 2011, they released their next studio album Rescue . Shane said the music will be a mix between Discovering the Waterfront and A Shipwreck in the Sand .
The sixth studio album Short Songs was released on February 10, 2012.
In September 2012 the band announced that guitarist Neil Boshart was no longer part of Silverstein. Paul Marc Rousseau, a long-time friend of the band, will take on his part.
On November 26, 2012, the Canadians announced the seventh studio album This Is How the Wind Shifts . This will also be a concept album like "A Shipwreck In The Sand" was. On the same day the first track of the album, namely Stand Amid the Roar , and an album trailer were released. A teaser webpage was previously published showing the announcement date.
style
Silverstein see themselves as a band influenced by many musical styles, which was founded with the aim of playing music between emo , hardcore and metal . With regard to their debut album "When Broken Is Easily Fixed" they call their style "the new, different style of post-hardcore or screamo ". The follow-up album "Discovering the Waterfront" is described by Silverstein as going more towards Metal, but also peppered with pop elements.
