Bayside is an American alternative rock group founded in Long Island in 2000 .

history

Bayside originated in Long Island, New York during the winter of 2000. Under the influence of bands like Smoking Popes , The Cure , The Smiths and Nirvana , they developed their own style, which is mainly expressed through meaningful lyrics and powerful guitar sounds. The band went on tour and the first EP Long Stories Short was released in 2001 under the indie label Dying Wish Records .

In 2003 the second studio album Split was released , which Bayside recorded together with the poppunk band Name Taken . In the following year the next album Sirens and Condolences was released , meanwhile the Bayside had changed the label and was now under contract with Victory Records . Not only the record label, but also the line-up of the band changed, Jim Mitchell (drums) was replaced by John "Beatz" Holohan and Andrew Elderbaum (bass) was replaced by Nick Ghanbarian . Singer Anthony Raneri and guitarist Jack O'Shea stayed in the band.

A longer tour followed, on which the band, according to their own statements, grew together into a musical unit. As a result, the decision was made to use the band name Bayside for the next album, as the band was now what they wanted to achieve. After the release of the album Bayside , the band went on the Never Sleep Again tour with the bands Aiden , Hawthorne Heights and Silverstein .

On the morning of October 31, 2005, the band was on their way to their next gig in Salt Lake City . During the journey, the van, in which the entire band was located, skidded due to black ice and overturned. Drummer John "Beatz" Holohan was killed in the accident and bassist Nick Ghanbarian was seriously injured. The remaining inmates got away with minor injuries.

After Bayside had left the tour for the time being, singer Anthony Raneri and guitarist Jack O'Shea decided to perform again in memory of their late drummer. They played the last concert of the tour at the House of Blues in Chicago as an acoustic duo, without bass and drums. The concert was recorded and added as a bonus to the acoustic album on DVD. The album was released in February 2006 and contains the song Winter , which is a memorial song for the late John Holohan.

After bassist Ghanbarian had recovered and had found a successor for Holohan in Chris Guglielmo , the band began to work on their next album The Walking Wounded in 2006 , which was released on February 6, 2007 and ranked 4th in the "Top Independent Album" - Charts reached. In mid-2008 the album was re-released as a "Gold Edition" with an additional bonus DVD, which includes a documentary about the band, some new acoustic recordings and a tour film.

In July / August 2008 the band went on tour as support together with Alkaline Trio and began work on the new studio album "Shudder", which was released on September 30th after the first single "No One Understand" (release: September 9th, 2008) Released in 2008 under Victory Records. At the same time a live album was released, which contains recordings from a concert for the "Bayside Social Club" in New York, which took place on August 17, 2008. - Hence the title "Live at the Bayside Social Club".

Among other things, songs from Bayside are included in the computer game NHL .
