Hawthorne Heights is a post-hardcore band from Dayton , Ohio , formed in June 2001 . Their original band name was "A Day In The Life"; the band renamed itself but parallel to the change of their music and their line-up in Hawthorne Heights. JT Woodruff is the lead singer and plays guitar at the same time , Matt Ridenour is on electric bass , Eron Bucciarellie plays drums , Casey Calvert and Micah Carli played guitar. On November 24, 2007, Calvert died unexpectedly in his sleep.

history

In June 2001 the five musicians got together in Dayton, Ohio, at that time still under the name A Day in the Life. After a few line-up changes and style changes, they decided on the name "Hawthorne Heights". After sporadic appearances their first demo appeared in 2003 , with which they could convince Tony Brummel, the boss of Victory Records , to sign the band. With this label they released their debut album The Silence in Black and White in 2004 . For promotional reasons, appearances on the Vans Warped Tour in 2004 follow . As the album sold very well, a revision was released that same year, which includes a new cover artwork , additional demo songs and a DVD section. The album sold nearly 750,000 copies and achieved gold status in the United States .

After that, the band toured with Silverstein , Bayside and Spitalsfield by the United Kingdom . Following this tour, Hawthorne Heights went on tour with both of the former again in the USA until Bayside drummer John “Beatz” Holohan was killed in a bus accident. After a few days, the tour continued without Bayside.

In spring 2006 the second album If Only You Were Lonely was released in collaboration with producer David Bendeth ( Breaking Benjamin , Towers of London ), which is now a little closer to the mainstream. Before the album was even released, the band toured the UK with Bullet for My Valentine , Still Remains and Aiden , followed by another tour of the US with Fall Out Boy . In November 2007, the guitarist Casey Calvert died in the tour bus as a result of drug abuse. Because of severe depression and anxiety , Calvert was treated with medication. Painkillers were also used to treat acute toothache. The drug mix of painkillers in conjunction with clonazepam probably led to an attack of suffocation that Calvert did not survive. The band decided to continue with the four of them.

On August 5, 2008 Hawthorne Heights released the album Fragile Future again on Victory Records. The next studio album, Skeletons, followed on June 1, 2010 on Wind-Up Records . Shortly thereafter, Victory Records released a best-of album called Midwesterners: The Hits . In July 2011 the band left the Wind-up Records label and the members began to build their own label Cardboard Empire . Cardboard Empire released the first extended play of a planned trilogy on August 23, 2011 . This EP is called Hate and contains nine songs.

style

With three guitarists as well as a bassist and a drummer, Hawthorne Heights differed from other rock bands ; Bands of this size usually consist of two guitarists (rhythm and lead). This composition, however, enables special live guitar harmonies and counter melodies . Musical transitions between effects such as distortion and chorus are also possible by having another guitarist play the next part. There are transitions that would not look clean with a single instrument. Usually two guitarists are involved. These transitions are often recorded in two parts in the studio and then mixed together to create the desired sound.
