Breaking Benjamin is an American rock band from Wilkes-Barre , Pennsylvania . The group made their breakthrough in the USA with their first album. With the release of the second album, Breaking Benjamin became known in Europe and Asia.

history

The band was formed in early 1998 by singer Benjamin Burnley and drummer Jeremy Hummel. The band was called Plan 9 in the meantime , and Breaking Benjamin again from the end of 2000 . Aaron Fink and Mark James Klepaski left the alternative metal band Lifer , which had just signed a recording deal with Universal, and joined the group.

Breaking Benjamin signed a deal with Hollywood Records , a Disney Music Group label , in 2001 and released their first album Saturate in 2002 , which climbed to # 136 on the Billboard 200 . The second album We Are Not Alone was released in 2004. It contains the band's most successful single up to that point - So Cold . She spent 37 weeks in the top 20 on the Billboard charts.

In September 2004, Jeremy Hummel, one of the founders, left the band due to conflicts. On September 28, 2004, Breaking Benjamin was sued by Hummel for not having received “a cent” for the songs he wrote. Hummel claimed around eight million dollars as compensation. However, the court refused. The band announced Chad Szeliga as the new drummer. In late 2004, the band released the So Cold EP , which included some live recordings and a studio recording of the song Blow Me Away , which was used in the video game Halo 2 .

The third album, Phobia , hit number two on the Billboard charts straight away. The album's first single, The Diary of Jane , reached number 2 on the mainstream rock chart. Benjamin Burnley described the whole album as "very personal" for him.

The fourth studio album, Dear Agony , which was again produced by David Bendeth, was released in 2009.

Aaron Fink and Mark Klepaski turned to their former band Lifer and left the band in 2011. In 2013 Chad Szeliga also announced on Facebook that he was leaving the band and wishing all the members all the best.

In June 2015 the new studio album Dark Before Dawn was released on CD and as a download.

A year later, the band traveled to Europe for the first time, which previously seemed impossible due to the singer's fear of flying. But they went by ship and, in addition to shows in Berlin and Hamburg, also played at Rock am Ring .
