Rise Records is an independent label founded in 1991 that specializes in metal and hardcore punk . It has been part of the BMG Group since 2015 .

history

The label was founded by Craig Ericson in Roseburg , Oregon , but did not release the first CD until 2000 after the label moved to Portland . Previously, only 7 "records were released. Ericson wanted to graduate from college , so he put the label on hold. According to a Billboard report , the first release was released back in 1991 while Ericson was still in high school.

Between 1999 and 2005 Rise Records had mostly local groups under contract, including One Last Thing and Livit , which were very popular, but brought losses to the label. The success started in 2006 with the release of the album In Vogue by Drop Dead, Gorgeous , which sold 30,000 copies. Ever We Fall and Fear Before were already signed to the label and have since signed with Hopeless Records and Equal Vision Records , respectively. Other well-known groups that were signed to Rise are The Devil Wears Prada and Breathe Carolina , all of whom had great success with the label and later switched to other labels such as Suretone Records , Fearless Records and Ferret Music . Another very successful band signed to Rise are Sleeping with Sirens , who released three studio albums after five years of label membership. They stated that they wanted to release the fourth album on their own.

Groups like The Bled , Bleeding Through , This is Hell and From First to Last have also been signed to Rise Records. The label currently has 28 bands in their rooster. The label's productions are distributed by ADA .

On February 3, 2010, the subsidiary label Velocity Records was launched. This label is managed by Dave Shapiro. Velocity has signed Woe, Is Me , SECRETS , Abandon All Ships , A Loss for Words , MikeyWhiskeyHands and The Air I Breathe .

In April 2010 the label announced that they wanted to release the band Piebald's albums as a box set. This release is expected to include all of the band's releases at Big Wheel Recreation between 1999 and 2002, as well as some previously unreleased songs.

In the past few years, the label generated an increase in sales of ten million USD . Five percent of all records sold in the USA in 2014 in the hard rock music sector were released via Rise Records, twice as much as the two competing patent companies Hopeless and Epitaph Records combined. In September 2014, Rise Records signed a distribution deal with the Australian label UNFD . Thus, Rise Records will distribute releases of the Australian record company in North America in the future.

In May 2015 it was confirmed that the BMG group had taken over Rise Records. The label continues to operate from Portland under the direction of founder Craig Ericson and uses the infrastructure and the back office of the parent company.
