The Devil Wears Prada (also abbreviated TDWP ) is a Christian metalcore - band from Dayton , Ohio (USA).
history
The band was founded in 2005, based on the book The Devil Wears Prada by Lauren Weisberger named founded. According to an interview with Mike Hranica, this was pure coincidence. In the same year, the debut EP Patterns of a Horizon appeared in self-distribution. On August 22, 2006, the debut album Dear Love: A Beautiful Discord was released via Rise Records. The guest singer on this album is Cole Wallace from the American, also Christian, metalcore band Gwen Stacy . The second album Plagues , on which Chiodos singer Craig Owens appears as a guest vocalist, was released on August 21, 2007 and reached number 57 on the US Billboard Albums Top 100. The video for Hey John, What's Your Name Again? first ran on November 3, 2007 on MTV2's Headbangers Ball in the US. Keyboardist James Baney left the band on February 22, 2012 .
style
music
The band's style ranges from high screams and deep growls to clear, high-pitched vocals. The mixture of electronic post-hardcore / hardcore elements with the typical metalcore, such as the use of breakdowns or double bass drum volleys, is particularly striking . Since the Zombie EP , their style has stood out from the earlier albums with the rarer clean chants and more progressive elements.
In an earlier interview with East Coast Romper magazine, the band named Underoath and Still Remains as their musical influences.
Texts
Lyrically, The Devil Wears Prada often deal with the social and ethical understanding of many people today. Sometimes her texts are also anti- idealistic and anti- materialistic . In contrast to the profound and serious lyrics, the titles of most songs are to be understood as a gag or play on words , which usually have no relation to the text of the song. However, since the Zombie EP from 2010, the songs have had normal titles.
