Our church (spelling: UNSERE KIRCHE , abbreviation: UK) is a weekly newspaper of the Evangelical Church of Westphalia and the Lippe Regional Church . It appears in an edition of approx. 26,000 copies.

history

The Protestant Sunday paper Friede und Freude ( Peace and Joy) has been published in Witten since 1916, and with 30 local editions it was mainly distributed in the Ruhr area. Our church regards peace and joy as its forerunner. In 1941, Friede und Freude had to stop publishing.

In June 1946 the British military government issued a license for a newspaper called Neue Kirche , the first edition of which appeared that same month, on June 30, 1946, and henceforth fortnightly, with a circulation of 250,000 copies. From 1951 it appeared weekly under the name Our Church .

The editorial staff was initially housed in the Von Bodelschwingh Foundation Bethel . Editing and publishing have been working under the umbrella of the Evangelical Media House in Bielefeld-Brackwede since 1972 , together with other departments and institutions of the Evangelical Church of Westphalia (EKvW).

Since 2015, Our Church has been appearing as an app for Android and Apple iOS in addition to the printed version .

Regional parts, content and concerns

Our church consists of a 16-page supraregional part, eleven regional parts for the Evangelical Church of Westphalia, as well as one regional part each for the Lippe Regional Church, the Evangelical Church in Saarland and the Church Association Cologne and Region. The dates of church services and events of the congregations are published in the regional sections.

The weekly newspaper sees itself as a discussion forum for the parishes, church districts and institutions of the Evangelical Church of Westphalia and the Lippe Regional Church. It provides information on issues in church and society and comments on developments from a Protestant perspective. Readers' opinions are also published.

Furthermore, the newspaper also wants to give encouragement in faith and help in overcoming life crises. It publishes reports, interviews and reports from the everyday life of the people in the apparition area, which show how Christians try to cope with everyday life. The newspaper also presents new projects from the communities. Cultural contributions and entertainment are also included.

The weekly newspaper sees it as its task to work out what is evangelical, but also wants to promote ecumenism. Articles on faith topics are designed to help people express their own beliefs. The advisory contributions are intended to give the readers inspiration and orientation in questions of personal life.

Edition

In the third quarter of 2017, the weekly newspaper had a total circulation of 26,820 copies, with a sold circulation of 26,200 copies, of which 22,865 were subscribers.
