history

So Long Safety (2006-2009)

The original band that later became Hands Like Houses was called So Long Safety and was formed in 2006. Band members included Alex Pearson, Matt Cooper, Joel Tyrrell, Matt Parkitney and Jamal Sabet. In 2008 they released an EP called Bear In Mind, I'm A Lion and made a video for the song You'll Never Beat Me, I'm Hydrodynamically Designed . The band was nominated for two awards MusicOz and reached top rankings in the Unearthed Competition of the Australian radio station Triple J .

In 2009, the current singer Trenton Woodley joined the band after his old band Eternal Debut broke up. The line-up, which remained constant from then on, recorded a demo song called One: Hundred , which was later to be re-recorded for the Hands Like Houses debut album.

Name change and Ground Dweller (2010-2012)

In 2010 they changed their name to Hands Like Houses. The name comes from the film Science of Sleep - Instructions for Dreaming in which the protagonist has a recurring dream in which his hands become "as big as houses".

The band traveled to Orlando, Florida that same year to record their first EP at Chango Studios with producer Cameron Mizell. In 2011 the singles There's No Place For Animals and Lion Skin were released , shortly afterwards the band decided to make a full studio album out of their EP. They completed their first European tour in 2011, when they played as support for Hopes Die Last and The Elijah.

On January 4, 2012 it was officially announced that they had signed a contract with Rise Records. A few days later, the release date of their debut album Ground Dweller for March 13, 2012 was announced. Further details were released by Rise Records over the next few months and the entire album was made available for streaming on YouTube from March 11th. Ground Dweller reached number 141 on the Billboard 200 chart and number 2 on the Billboard Heatseekers chart. The reviews were mostly positive, many praised the complete renunciation of screaming / growling , as is usual in post-hardcore , as well as the skillful use of synthesizer effects. Criticisms were the production and the overloading of some songs.

On April 16, 2012, a teaser for a digital video EP called Snow Sessions was uploaded to the band's official YouTube channel . It was released in two parts on April 23rd and May 1st and consists of two acoustic versions of songs from their debut album.

Their first tour of the USA started on May 2, 2012 together with The Air I Breathe, My Ticket Home and Palisades. From July 5th they were on the annual Scream It Like You Mean It Tour with Attack Attack! , The Acacia Strain , Woe, Is Me , Oceano and Impending Doom on the go. On August 6th, the Collide With The Sky Tour was announced and featured Hands Like Houses supporting Pierce the Veil , Sleeping with Sirens and Tonight Alive . Furthermore, the official music video for This Ain't No Place For Animals was released on August 28th .

Unimagine (2013)

On February 13th, Hands Like Houses announced via Twitter that they were working on a new album. On March 22nd, 2013 this was confirmed by a video which showed the band in the studio while recording their new album. The release date was announced on June 7th, 2013, it will be released on July 23rd via Rise Records and will be titled Unimagine . A week later, the first single Introduced Species was released, shortly afterwards the band went on the annual Vans Warped Tour which runs from June 15th to August 4th. On June 28, the Australian Blunt Magazine published the premiere of the second single A Fire On A Hill with accompanying music video. Furthermore, on July 16, 2013, a music video for the third single Shapeshifters followed, consisting of live recordings from the Warped Tour.

Dissonants (2016)

The band entered the studio in March and recorded their third album with James Paul Wisner ( Underoath , Paramore , Go Radio, The Getaway Plan) in St. Cloud, FL. The album was released by Rise Records and UNFD , and originally received a preliminary release for October 2015. The band toured on this year's Vans Warped Tour . They debuted a new song "New Romantics" as part of their set. On August 11th, the band announced on Facebook that their new album is called "Dissonants" and will be released this October. They also announced a world tour. The band released Dissonants' second single, "New Romantics," which previously debuted during the Warped Tour in October. The band later debuted two new songs during their "Dissonants World Tour", Glasshouse and Perspectives. On June 15, 2017, the band released a new single, "Drift", announcing that they have signed with Hopeless Records worldwide , excluding Australia and New Zealand, where their partnership with UNFD continues.

Anon (2018)

In early 2018 the band appeared at the UNIFY festival in Tarwin Lower and took part in the Resonant Acoustic Tour. On July 26th, the band announced that they would release their fourth studio album, "Anon," which will be released on October 12th through Hopeless Records. The album's first single, Overthinking, was also released on the same day. Four days later, the band announced dates for a headlining tour of North America with Emarosa and Devour the Day. The album's second single, "Monster", was released on August 13th. The album's third single, "Tilt", was released on September 20th.

style

Hands Like Houses play a mixture of modern post-hardcore , electronic effects and various experimental elements such as harps or carillon. Singer Trenton Woodley completely dispenses with the use of guttural vocals and uses soul- oriented vocals similar to Tyler Carter (ex-Woe, Is Me) Jonny Craig (ex-Emarosa, Dance Gavin Dance). Hands Like Houses list The Receiving End of Sirens and Thrice as influences.
