Uli Soyka
Uli Soyka (born October 1, 1964 in Vienna ) is an Austrian jazz musician (drums, percussion), composer, drum teacher and music label owner.
Live and act
As a child, Soyka played the flute for years before switching to drums. The trained goldsmith and engraver could no longer work for health reasons and switched to music. He initially studied for a year and a half at a university, but then gave up studying.
In 1998 Soyka founded the Pan Tau-X creative platform . That was also the founding hour of his own music label Pan Tau-X Records .
Soyka is a member of several ensembles. He plays in the Lila Lotus jazz ensemble with Henrik Hallberg, Magnus Bergström and Lorenz Raab . Sometimes Reinhard "Wurzl" Buchta is there too. In the improvisation quartet Erstkontakt he plays alongside Peter Ponger , Klaus Gesing and Hans Strasser. In 2012, in addition to Klaus Gesing, Peter Ponger, Kenny Wheeler , John Abercrombie , Paul Rogers and sound engineer Reinhard “Wurzl” Buchta can be heard in the line-up Erstkontakt on October 12, 2012 at the Vienna jazz club Porgy & Bess . In the trio Undetected he plays alongside Frank Schwimm and Raphael Preuschl . He has already released 13 CDs (as of 2008) through his label .
Soyka also plays in the formation Undetected + . Included are Klaus Dick Bauer , Uli Rennert , Frank Schwinn and Raphael Preuschl.
In February 2007 Soyka played the music at the literature reading in the city district by the Austrian authors Dagmar Fischer and Rudolf Kraus . In 2012 he worked with Peter Ponger and author Bernhard Saupe in the Lost & Found concert series at Porgy & Bess. 2007, from founded Romania originating Claudia Cervenca together with Uli Soyka and Karl Sayer Group Troica . The group won the main prize of the Austrian World Music Awards 2007 at the Festival of Sounds . In July 2008 the debut album Dor ( Sehnsucht ) was released, which was nominated for the German Record Critics' Prize in 2008.
Since 2008 Uli Soyka has organized, financed and played a monthly concert series "pantau-x-musik-hautnah" in Vienna (... with monthly changing line-ups)
After moving well over a dozen, Soyka has lived in Vienna since 1987.
