Klaus Dickbauer (born August 21, 1961 in Wels ) is an Austrian jazz musician (especially alto saxophone ).

Live and act

Dickbauer studied clarinet and saxophone in Linz , Salzburg , Vienna and Berklee . Since 1984 he has worked with the bands of Karl Ratzer , Hans Koller , the Upper Austrian Jazz Orchestra , the Saxofour Quartet and the Intergalactic Maiden Ballet (with Eddie Harris and Dave Liebman ). Together with Wolfgang Mitterer , Günther Selichar and Gunter Schneider he founded the group Call Boys Inc. , an ensemble for new improvisational music . From 1990 to 2005 he was a member of the Vienna Art Orchestra . Dickbauer has been teaching saxophone at the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna since 1991 .

In 1995 his first solo CD was released, Solo Works 89-93 . He was involved in Ernst Jandl's production Lieber ein Saxophone with Lauren Newton .

He also worked with a number of prominent musicians such as Fritz Pauer , Wolfgang Muthspiel , Wolfgang Reisinger , Wolfgang Puschnig , Jean-Paul Céléa , Tom Cora , Kenny Wheeler , Django Bates , Steve Argüelles , Louis Sclavis , Bob Berg , Herbert Joos and Michel Godard . Dickbauer also appeared as a composer on various occasions and is a member of the Dickbauer Collective . With Daniel Oman, Wolfgang Heiler, Thomas Wall and Wolfram Derschmidt he belongs to the quintet Austrian Art Gang , which released an album in 2017 with cross-genre improvisations on Bach's art of fugue .

Dickbauer received the Hans Koller Prize as "Musician of the Year 2002" .
