Günther Selichar (* 1960 in Linz ) is an Austrian visual artist ( media art , public (media) space , photography ).

Life

Günther Selichar studied art history and classical archeology from 1979 to 1986 at the University of Salzburg and at the Art Institute of Chicago (Fulbright scholarship). From 2007 to 2013 he was professor for media art at the University of Graphics and Book Art in Leipzig , where he founded the class for mass media research and art in public media. It deals in a documentary way with apparatus and technological aspects of (mass) media and shows this among other things. a. in series of abstract photography. He also carries out interventions in public space, such as in the mass media space of television, on billboards or urban screens, in print media, etc. (USA, China and various European countries). His art theoretical work deals with questions of art and mass media, public space, photography or analog and digital media.
