With the guitarist Mike Stern , whom he met at Davis, he then founded a fusion band that lasted until 1993. He often played at 7th Avenue South NYC Club . He also worked for Randy Brecker , from 1992 also in the groups of Chick Corea . He also performed with his own Bob Berg Quartet , including in the Caribbean in 1992 and in the Soviet Union in 1994 . His album Back Roads was nominated for a Grammy in 1993. It was followed by plates such as B. In the Shadows (1990) and Virtual Reality (1992).
His last project was - together with Randy Brecker, Joey DeFrancesco and Dennis Chambers - The JazzTimes Superband . He has also worked on recordings by Gary Burton , Leni Stern , Wolfgang Muthspiel , Eliane Elias , Tom Harrell , Barbara Dennerlein , Pino Daniele and Joe Chambers .
