Dejan Terzic
Dejan Terzic (* 1970 in Banja Luka ) is a German modern creative jazz drummer .
Live and act
Terzic, who moved to Nuremberg with his family when he was three, learned the piano from the age of six. At the age of twelve he switched to drums . From 1990 he studied at the Nuremberg Conservatory and then studied with Bill Elgart at the University of Music in Würzburg . In the meantime he deepened his studies in New York City with Marvin Smitty Smith , Bill Stewart and Duduka da Fonseca and at the Vermont Jazz Center with Jimmy Cobb and Attila Zoller .
Between 1992 and 1995 he was a member of the Bavarian First Herd , led by Dusko Goykovich , and from 1993 to 1996 also of the Bujazzo . He also belonged to Hubert Winter's quartet . He also founded the Sunday Night Orchestra in 1994 with Sebastian Strempel .
At the end of the 1990s he was internationally active as a member of the Dusko Goykovich Quintet and Antonio Faraò's trio . From 2000 he belonged to the bands of Bob Berg , Franco Ambrosetti and Enrico Rava , with whom he also recorded.
Furthermore he belonged to the groups of Johannes Enders , Nils Wogram , Jens Winther and Anke Helfrich . In his group Underground, which has existed since 2002 (initially with Chris Speed , Frank Möbus and Mark Helias ), he deals with Balkan music . He also toured with Sonny Fortune and is a member of the Trio Rooms with Hans Lüdemann and Sébastien Boisseau . He forms the Melanoia quartet with Hayden Chisholm , Achim Kaufmann and Ronny Graupe .
Since 2008 he has been teaching drums as a major at the Bern University of the Arts / Swiss Jazz School .
Prizes and awards
Terzic, who was honored as "best drummer" at several international festivals, was the recipient of the Nuremberg Culture Prize in 1997. In 2004 he received the Bavarian Art Prize with the Sunday Night Orchestra .
