Henning Sieverts
Henning Sieverts (born March 6, 1966 in Berlin ) is a German jazz musician (bass, cello) and composer. He is a radio editor with a focus on jazz at Bayerischer Rundfunk .
Live and act
Sieverts, whose father played the violin and viola, learned the cello as a child; He came to jazz early on through concert experiences at the Berlin Jazz Days . From 1977 to 1984 he studied cello at the Berlin Conservatory. In 1985 he moved to Munich , where he studied journalism at the German School of Journalism and until 1990 at the Ludwig Maximilians University . In addition, he learned to play the double bass and electric bass. Between 1983 and 1989 he appeared with the Berlin actress Christa Lorenz in programs with texts by Kurt Tucholsky , Erich Mühsam and Paul Scheerbart .
In 1990 he became a member of the Federal Jazz Orchestra . In 1991 he led his own trio with Martin Scales and Falk Willis and was then a member of The Red Area . Between 1995 and 1997 he worked increasingly with the SDR big band and made recordings with Phil Woods , Slide Hampton , Frank Foster and Manny Albam . In addition, he went on several international tours and worked with Harald Rüschenbaum , Heinrich von Kalnein and Adrian Mears . Since 1999 he has performed with the RIAS big band and produced radio and CD recordings a. a. with Richie Beirach , Jim McNeely , Peter Herbolzheimer , Ack van Rooyen , John Ruocco and Jiggs Whigham . In autumn 1999 he went on a European tour with the Nils Wogram Quartet .
In 2000 he performed with Steffen Schorn at the SWR New Jazz Meeting and toured for the Goethe-Institut a . a. in Turkey, Italy, Hungary and Latin America. He toured with Adam Pieronczyk's Amusos in 2002. He was also a member of the trios of Joe Kienemann , Larry Porter , Peter Fulda and Christian Elsässer . Since 2003 he has also regularly produced and moderated jazz programs for Bayerischer Rundfunk . The album Blackbird was created with his quintet Symmetry , which received a lot of critical acclaim in the Jazz Podium and Rondo .
Sieverts composed numerous jazz pieces, as well as classical works, including two orchestral pieces, a string quartet and chamber music works for cello or bass and piano.

Awards
In 1983 and 1984 Sieverts received first prize in the “Students Compose” competition. In 1990 he was awarded the Music Prize of the City of Munich . In 1991 he won the jazz competition of the International Society of Bassists. In 1999 he received the Bavarian State Prize . In March 2007 he was honored as the best soloist at the New German Jazz Prize in Mannheim together with Johannes Enders. In 2010 he received the ECHO Jazz in the category "Instrumentalist of the year national - bass / bass guitar".
