The red area
The Red Area is a Berlin jazz band. Founded as a quintet in Nuremberg in 1992 , the Red Area has been working as a trio with bass clarinet , electric guitar and drums since 1998 - this line-up without bass and without one of the typical solo instruments piano , saxophone or trumpet is very unusual in jazz . They play a very lively and, in principle, open mixture of free improvisation and pop and rock elements, which often play in a very humorous way with existing musical materials and expectations.
In March 2006 the Red Area received the New German Jazz Prize .
