Frank Möbus (born March 7, 1966 in Nuremberg ) is a German modern jazz guitarist .

Life

Möbus studied from 1985 to 1989 in Boston , Massachusetts at Berklee College of Music and during this time also had regular jazz improvisation lessons with Jerry Bergonzi .

With the bass clarinetist Rudi Mahall , he founded the band Der Rotebereich in 1989 , with which he visited countless internationally renowned festivals and has so far released seven albums (for Jazz4Ever Records , ACT and Intakt). He has been working with Jim Black on Carlos Bica's Azul project since 1993 . He also makes music with Daniel Erdmann at Erdmann / Rohrer / Möbus / Courtois (since 2009) and is a member of the groups, Christoph Grab's “Raw Vision”, the formation “KUU!” And Wiesendanger / Möbus / Hemingway. He was a member of the formations "Erdmann 3000" (formerly knows as Erdmann 2000), " Yuri Honings " "" Wired Paradise ", Paul van Kemenade -international 5tett, Dejan Terzic" Underground "and the soul band" Spank You ". He toured as a soloist with musicians such as Herb Robertson , Ray Anderson , Kenny Wheeler , Mark Helias , Karl Berger , Louis Sclavis , Maria João , Chris Speed , David Moss , Till Brönner , Han Bennink and many others. Möbus was appointed professor for jazz guitar and ensemble at the Liszt School of Music Weimar in 2003. In addition, he has been teaching jazz guitar at the Lucerne University of Applied Sciences since 2007 and has taught at countless jazz workshops around the world.

Frank Möbus composed the film music for Die Kachelzählerin by Hans-Günter Brodmann and Rio Vermelho by director Raquel Freire and occasionally works as a producer on ambitious productions by young artists .

In his private life , Frank Möbus has chosen Berlin as the center of his life. He is the father of a son and a daughter there.
