Jazz4Ever Records

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Jazz4Ever Records is an independent record company specializing in jazz , founded by the EDP specialist Alfred Mangold in Nuremberg in 1989 .

history

The label was created after an interview by Mangold with drummer Wolfgang Haffner at Jazztime Nürnberg , a jazz program from the Nuremberg Jazz Studio . Since Haffner complained about the lack of publication opportunities, Mangold took the initiative. The first publication of his company, which was run alongside his job, was a live recording on Bayerischer Rundfunk with Haffner's quartet with Tony Lakatos . The aim of his label was initially to create a platform for younger musicians from the Franconian jazz scene. Jazz4Ever published recordings by Bernhard Pichl , Peter Fulda or Der Rotebereich around Frank Möbus and Rudi Mahall ; later musicians like Michael Flügel , Florian Bührich, Matthias Rosenbauer , Edith Steyer , Torsten Goods or Markus Schieferdecker joined them.

The label soon released records from musicians from other regions, from Roman Schwaller as well as Christof Griese , Daniel Erdmann , Johannes Enders , Melanie Bong , Rainer Böhm , Oliver Leicht , Axel Schlosser and Matthias Bergmann . The catalog also includes musicians from North America such as Pete Yellin , Benny Bailey , Tim Hagans , Hal Crook , Ed Schuller and Charlie Mariano .

Mangold operates Jazz4Ever as a "non-profit" company and waives publishing rights; nor does he try to tie musicians to long-term contracts. In addition, Jazz4Ever does not produce the recording itself; rather, the musicians apply with finished master CDs in order to conclude a band takeover contract. Up to 2008 there were mostly six publications a year; Jazz4Ever's last album so far was released in 2012.
