In addition to his work in the big band, he continued to perform with his own groups, including Randy Brecker , Joanne Brackeen and Dick de Graaf as co-leaders as well as George Mraz and Al Foster . He also presented the album Let's Get Lost with a few other soloists from the hr Bigband ( Heinz-Dieter Sauerborn , Axel Schlosser and Günter Bollmann ) and the rhythm section of the Mingus Big Band . Lakatos has a luminous tone with compact highs and, according to Martin Kunzler , is an excellent ballad interpreter. So far (2009) he has been involved in the recording of more than 280 LPs and CDs. He is the first Hungarian musician whose records reached the Gavin Report Top Ten American jazz radio stations ("Recycling", 1993; "The News").
