Willis Robert "Billy" Drummond (born June 19, 1959 in Newport News , Virginia ) is an American jazz drummer.

Live and act

Drummond began playing drums at the age of four and played in various school and regional bands as a teenager. In 1988 he went to New York City , where he soon became a member of the band "Out of the Blue" and joined the sextet of Horace Silver .

Drummond can be heard as a sideman on over two hundred CDs, among others with Carla Bley , Sonny Rollins , Steve Kuhn , Joe Henderson , JJ Johnson , Nat Adderley , Bobby Hutcherson , Buster Williams , Lee Konitz , James Moody , Andrew Hill , Freddie Hubbard , Charles Tolliver , Sheila Jordan , Tony Lakatos , Franco Ambrosetti , Yakov Okun , Toots Thielemans and Larry Willis ( Blue Fable , 2007). He also released several albums as a band leader. Together with his (now former) wife Renee Rosnes and the (unrelated) bassist Ray Drummond , he played in the group "The Drummonds". He teaches jazz drums at the Juilliard School of Music and New York University .
