Chris Potter (* 1. January 1971 in Chicago ) is an American jazz - saxophonist and composer.

Live and act

Potter was born in Chicago but grew up in Columbia, South Carolina , where his mother taught at university. He showed an early interest in many types of music and learned various instruments such as guitar and piano, but eventually devoted himself to studying the alto and tenor saxophone. Potter played his first professional jazz concert at the age of 13. He later attended the Manhattan School of Music .

Potter released a number of albums as a band leader and made recordings with jazz musicians such as Kenny Werner , Red Rodney , Marian McPartland , the Mingus Big Band ( Gunslinging Birds 1994), Paul Motian , Pat Metheny , Ray Brown , Jim Hall , James Moody , Dave Douglas ( Strange Liberation ), Joe Lovano , Mike Mainieri , Steve Swallow , Steely Dan , Dave Holland , Joanne Brackeen and Josh Roseman ( Treats for the Nightwalker , 2003).
