Josh Roseman

Joshua "Josh" Roseman (born June 5, 1972 in Boston ) is an American jazz trombonist (also tuba , euphonium , bass , drums , piano ) and music teacher .

Live and act

Roseman comes from a family of musicians and studied at Berklee and at the New England Conservatory of Music ; an important mentor for him was Lester Bowie . During this time he played with Joe Maneri , Muhal Richard Abrams , George Russell , Bob Moses and in the Either / Orchestra . Since the 1990s he has worked in the New York downtown scene a. a. in ensembles such as Brooklyn Funk Essentials , James Carney Group , Peter Apfelbaum & The New York Hieroglyphics, Rob Reddy's Honor System, Samo Šalamon NYC Quintet, at Don Byron and in the SFJazz Collective . He co-founded the acid jazz bands The Groove Collective and Giant Step . With his polystylistic Josh Roseman Unit he recorded Treats for the Nightwalker in 2003 with a total of 23 musicians, including Chris Potter , Liberty Ellman , Myron Walden , Mark Feldman and Matthew Shipp ( Good and Evil Sessions ). In 2007 he presented the album New Constellations (Live In Vienna) with Enja , on which trumpeter Ambrose Akinmusire also participated. He has also recorded with Uri Caine , Lettuce and Sheryl Crow . As a music teacher he was a. a. at the New School For Social Research , the Harlem School for the Arts and the Banff Center in Alberta, Canada. Roseman lives in Brooklyn , New York.
