James Carney (* 1964 in Syracuse , New York ) an American is a jazz musician ( piano , keyboard ) and composer of modern creative .

Life

James Carney attended Skaneateles High School and began his musical career as a brass player and pop keyboardist before turning to jazz in 1986. He studied at the California Institute of the Arts (graduated in 1990) and has worked since then in Los Angeles and from 2004 in New York with his own formations, a. a. with Ralph Alessi , Ravi Coltrane , Peter Epstein , Mark Ferber , Chris Lightcap , Chuck Manning , Darek Oleszkiewicz and Josh Roseman . He put on a number of albums on his own label Jacaranda as well as on Songlines and Clean Feed Records . In 2013 he played in a trio with Mark Helias and Chad Taylor . Carney has been organizing the weekly live jazz event series Konceptions Music Series at Korzo in Park Slope, Brooklyn , since 2011 .
