Mark Ferber

Mark Ferber (born January 18, 1975 in Oakland ) is an American jazz drummer.

Ferber grew up in Moraga , California and learned to play the piano in early childhood before switching to drums. He graduated from the University of California, Los Angeles , with a bachelor's degree in geography.

He recorded frequently as a sideman and freelanced on both the West Coast and New York. In Los Angeles he played with Anthony Wilson's Organ Trio and Nonett, with the Billy Childs Chamber Ensemble, with Wadada Leo Smith and the saxophonist Bob Sheppard and in New York with Lee Konitz , Don Byron , Fred Hersch , Norah Jones , Steve Swallow and Jack Wilkins . Ferber currently plays (2012) in the band This Against That of Ralph Alessi and the trio and quintet by Jonathan Kreisberg . He also works with Mike KHolober ( Hiding Out , 2019), David Smith , Nicolas Masson and around the music cooperative Brooklyn Jazz Underground .

He teaches at the City College of New York and the School of Improvisational Music (SIM) in New York as well as at workshops in the USA and Europe.

Ferber is the twin brother of jazz trombonist Alan Ferber , with whom he also plays.
