Bob Sheppard

Bob Sheppard (born May 4, 1952 in Trenton (New Jersey) ) is an American jazz saxophonist (tenor, soprano), flautist and clarinetist.

Sheppard studied at the Eastman School of Music. In addition to jazz, he plays as a studio musician and in the pop area. He is a multi-instrumentalist.

He played eight years of Freddie Hubbard , with various ensembles of Billy Childs (who on his album Tell Tale Signs cooperates 1991) and was a longtime member of the trio (The Lounge Art Ensemble with Dave Carpenter on bass) drummer Peter Erskine , with which he also released two albums (Lava Jazz 1998, Music for Moderns 2005). He played in Chick Coreas Origin , with Mike Stern , Randy Brecker , Horace Silver , Lyle Mays , Nat Adderley , Scott Henderson , John Serry and in the Toshiko Akiyoshi / Lew Tabackin Big Band.

He toured with Steely Dan and Boz Scaggs and accompanied James Taylor , Natalie Cole , Queen Latifah , Rickie Lee Jones , Stevie Wonder , Rod Stewart , Randy Newman , Kurt Elling , Marilyn Scott , Elvis Costello , Dianne Reeves and Joni Mitchell (for example on their album Shine ).

He lives in Los Angeles , but also works a lot in New York City . He teaches in Jazz Clinics and at the Thorton School of Music at the University of Southern California .

He recorded under his own name: In the Now (Sirocco Jazz 2002) and Close your eyes (BFM Jazz 2010).
