Norah Jones
Norah Jones (* 30th March 1979 as Geethali Norah Jones Shankar in Brooklyn , New York ) is an American Soul - and jazz singer, pianist , songwriter , actress and multiple Grammy -Preisträgerin.
Life
Norah Jones is the daughter of Susan Jones and Ravi Shankar . Anoushka Shankar is her half-sister. At the age of four, she moved with her mother to Grapevine, Texas , a suburb of Dallas . Two years later she took piano lessons , and for some time she also played the saxophone and trumpet . At age 15, she enrolled at the Booker T. Washington High School for the Performing and Visual Arts, from which Erykah Badu and Roy Hargrove also graduated. During her school days she received several prizes for her singing and her compositions. She changed her name when she was 16 and with her father's permission. After high school, Jones went to the University of North Texas, known for its good music lessons, in 1997 , where he studied jazz piano . On the side she sang in the band Laszlo .
In 1999 she moved to New York and performed regularly with the funk band Wax Poetic by İlhan Erşahin on. But soon she founded her own band with Jesse Harris, Lee Alexander and Dan Rieser. In October 2000 they recorded some demo tapes for Blue Note Records and in January 2001 they signed a contract there. Jones recorded two songs for Charles Hunter's album Songs from the Analog Playground : More Than This by Roxy Music and Day Is Done by Nick Drake .
In 2003 she received five Grammys for her album Come Away with Me, produced by Arif Mardin . This made her known to a wider audience. A year later, the album Feels Like Home was released . In 2006 she released an album of the same name with her band The Little Willies .
On January 26, 2007 her album Not Too Late was released . In the same year she made her debut as an actress with the part of Elizabeth in My Blueberry Nights , the US road movie by Hong Kong director Wong Kar-wai . The film opened the 60th Cannes Film Festival on May 16, 2007 .
On November 13, 2009, her fourth studio album was released with the title The Fall . In November 2010 the album ... Featuring followed and in April 2012 the album Little Broken Hearts, which was produced by Danger Mouse . In 2011 she had already contributed to his album Rome , which was produced in cooperation with Daniele Luppi , for several pieces with her voice. Her sixth studio album, Day Breaks , was released in October 2016.
She is married and has two sons (* 2014 and 2016).
