Jonathan Kreisberg

Jonathan Kreisberg (* 1972 in New York City ) is an American jazz guitarist and composer .

biography

Kreisberg grew up in Miami ; At the age of ten he began to play guitar, initially rock and classical guitar. At the age of 16 his compositions were already discussed in Guitar Player magazine ; this was followed by jazz studies at the New World School of the Arts and at the University of Miami . There he was a member of the Concert Jazz Band , with whom he toured Brazil and performed with Joe Henderson , Michael Brecker and Red Rodney . After his graduation he worked a. a. with the New World Symphony under the direction of Michael Tilson Thomas and the progressive rock band Third Wish ; He also recorded an album in 1995 with the formation Wyscan, which stylistically borrowed from art rock bands such as Yes or King Crimson .

In 1996 he made his debut album, which he recorded with his fusion- oriented Jonathan Kreisberg Trio , with whom he performed in the Miami area and on the east coast of the USA. In 1997 he returned to New York and stylistically shifted to acoustic jazz. In New York he worked with Lenny White , Jeff Andrews , Greg Tardy and Joel Frahm , he also founded a trio with which he played jazz standards ( Interpretations Group ) and a quartet with which he recorded his own compositions ( compositions group ). In 2002 he recorded the trio album Trioing with Johannes Weidenmüller and Ari Hoenig ; In 2012 he worked in a quartet with Will Vinson , Joe Martin and Mark Ferber . In 2018 he was with Johnathan Blake at Dr. Involved in Lonnie Smith's album All in My Mind ( Blue Note ).
