Gary Versace

Gary Versace (born April 25, 1968 in Greenwich , Connecticut ) is an American jazz musician ( organ , piano , accordion ) who also worked as a university teacher.

Live and act

Versace had first lessons from his mother, a singer and organist, and private lessons from Kevin Hays . He holds a Masters in Music from the Eastman School of Music and has been an associate professor in the University of Oregon Department of Jazz Studies for eight years since 1993 . As a pianist, he appeared in Marian McPartland's NPR Piano Jazz program in 1999 . He has lived in New York City since 2002 and has worked since then. a. with John Scofield , John Abercrombie , Maria Schneider ( Concert in the Garden ), Matt Wilson , Lee Konitz , Eliot Zigmund , Scott Wendholt , Joe Magnarelli , Danny Gottlieb , Seamus Blake , Andy LaVerne , Adam Nussbaum , Brad Shepik , Ingrid Jensen , Tim Ries , Theo Bleckmann , John Hollenbeck and The Claudia Quintet ( Royal Toast ). In 2004 Versace released his debut album Winter Sonata , followed by a number of other productions on labels such as Winter & Winter , Criss Cross Jazz and SteepleChase Records . The musician participated in over 80 recording sessions until 2011.

Prizes and awards

Versace was nominated three times in the Rising star (Hammond organ) category of the Down Beat Critics' Polls between 2006 and 2008 ; In 2010 he led the newcomers. In 2012 he was named best keyboardist at the JJA Awards .
