Joe Magnarelli

Joe Magnarelli (* 1960 in Syracuse , New York ) is an American jazz - trumpet and flugelhorn player of the neo-bop jazz .

Live and act

At the age of twelve Magnarelli first learned to play the piano, later guitar and trumpet. He earned his bachelor's degree from the State University of New York in Fredonia in 1986, then moved to New York City, where he worked as a studio musician a. a. with Harry Connick junior , Lionel Hampton , Toshiko Akiyoshi , Andy Fusco , Mike Longo , Jack McDuff , Dado Moroni , Gary Smulyan and Chris Connor , and he also played in the bands of Ray Barretto and Buddy Rich .

From 1995 he also released a number of albums under his own name on the labels Criss Cross Jazz and Posi-Tone , u. a. with Peter Bernstein , David Hazeltine Renee Rosnes , Jim Snidero and Joel Weiskopf . Following the example of the Neal Hefti arrangement for the LP Clifford Brown with Strings from 1955, he recorded the string album My Old Flame with Marty Sheller in 2010 . He is currently (2019) leading a quartet that includes Spike Wilner , Ugonna Okegwo and Aaron Kimmel .
