Jim Snidero

Jim Snidero (born May 29, 1958 ) is an American jazz saxophonist .

Live and act

Snidero graduated from the University of North Texas . In 1981 he came to New York, where he became a member of Brother Jack McDuff's band . He toured the United States with the band and appeared on three of their albums. In the mid-1980s he became a member of the Toshiko Akiyoshi Jazz Orchestra . He also worked with the backup bands of Frank Sinatra and Eddie Palmieri and performed with the Frank Wess Sextet , the Mel Lewis Orchestra and the Mingus Big Band . Other musicians that Snidero worked with were Maria Schneider , Tony Bennett , Sting , Walt Weiskopf , Conrad Herwig , David Hazeltine , Mike LeDonne , Joe Magnarelli , Jim Rotondi and Michael Weiss .

Snidero recorded fourteen albums as a band leader, a. a. for the labels Criss Cross , Milestone and Red . In 2019 he leads his own band with Orrin Evans (piano), Alexander Claffy (bass) and Jonathan Barber (drums). He is also active as a music teacher. He is the author of the Jazz Conception textbook series and has taught at New School , New Jersey City University, and Indiana University in 2006 .
