Peter Lehel
Peter Lehel (born September 13, 1965 in Karlsruhe ) is a German jazz musician (tenor saxophone, soprano saxophone, bass clarinet, tárogató) and composer .
Live and act
Lehel began playing the saxophone when he was twelve. Between 1988 and 1996 he studied jazz and popular music at the music academies in Stuttgart and Budapest . He leads his own formations such as the Peter Lehel Quartet and has been a member of the groups Pipes & Phones since 1993 with the Stuttgart organist and composer Peter Schindler and the band SaltaCello, which is particularly popular in South Korea . In 1996 he performed in the Jazz Meets Classics project with Dino Saluzzi . The Finefones Saxophone Quartet is currently one of his most important projects.
With the Hoppel Hoppel Rhythm Club , Lehel is committed to the pedagogical teaching of jazz to children. As a composer he dedicates himself, among other things, to the integration of jazz soloists into the classical chamber orchestra or string orchestra. As a composer and arranger he works a. a. for the clarinetist Sabine Meyer , the clarinetists Wolfgang Meyer and Paquito D'Rivera and the Hammond organ virtuoso Barbara Dennerlein . In 2011 he initiated the Jazz Ensemble Baden-Württemberg .
Lehel is co-owner of the independent record label finetone music . Since 2004 he has been a lecturer for jazz / harmony / improvisation and big band at the Musikhochschule Karlsruhe . In 2014 he took over the artistic direction of the newly founded young band Jazz Juniors of the Baden-Württemberg State Music Council.
In 2011, Advance Music published the teaching and play-along book Crossover Pieces for Saxophone .
Prizes and awards
Lehel was awarded the Baden-Württemberg Jazz Prize in 1997 . Several productions in which he was involved received the German Record Critics' Prize (2000 and 2006).
