Axel Kühn (born March 17, 1981 in Tübingen ) is a German jazz musician ( bass , composition) and band leader .

Live and act

Kühn began his musical career at the age of 12 on the guitar. He later played the electric bass and switched to the double bass at the age of 17 . From 2002 to 2007 Kühn studied jazz and popular music at the Stuttgart University of Music and Performing Arts .

Since 2005 he has led his own jazz formation Kühntett (bass: Axel Kühn, sax: Alexander Kuhn , drums: Marcel Gustke, piano: Christoph Heckeler). In October 2006, the debut album was released under the name The Contemporary Jazz Movement . In December 2006 Axel Kühn was on a European tour with the Mahler Chamber Orchestra under the direction of Daniel Harding . In autumn 2008 his second album, Image of My Soul, was released as a band leader and in June 2011 his third with the title Checkpoint Jazz . Then he was active with the groups Very Kühn Quartet (album On the Run 2012 with Enja ) and the Axel Kühn Trio ( Open-Minded , 2014 with Double Moon Records ).

Kühn performed with the Bobby Burgess Big Band Explosion , the Jazz Ensemble Baden-Württemberg , Chris Gall , Max Greger Jr. , Anne Sofie von Otter , Wolfgang Puschnig , Ulisses Rocha , Helen Schneider , Julian and Roman Wasserfuhr . He can also be heard on albums by Cassandra Steen , Anne Czichowsky , Daniel Prandl , Gee Hye Lee and Christoph Neuhaus .

Axel Kühn teaches jazz and pop music at the Evangelical University for Church Music in Tübingen .
