Gee Hye Lee (born August 2, 1977 in Seoul ) is a South Korean jazz pianist living in Baden-Württemberg .

Live and act

Gee Hye Lee began taking piano lessons at the age of three. She received several awards as a classical pianist at an early age before switching from classical to jazz at the age of 16. In 1996 she moved to Stuttgart, where she studied at the State University for Music and Performing Arts with Paul Schwarz up to a diploma; with a scholarship she continued her education at Berklee College of Music in Boston from 2004 to 2005. After returning to Stuttgart, she received a scholarship from the Baden-Württemberg Art Foundation . She worked in several jazz, hip-hop and soul formations, including a. with appearances at the Jazz Days at Theaterhaus Stuttgart , International Jarasum Jazz Festival (South Korea) and the Festival Jazz Open .

In 2009 Gee Hye Lee released her debut album Midnight Walk (Universal Music Korea). She works in her trio with Jens Loh (double bass) and Sebastian Merk (drums), also with Hellmut Hattler ( Gotham City Beach Club Suite , 2010) and with Charly Antolini ( Charly Antolini meets the Jazzladies ). Gee Hye Lee regularly gives concerts on Mondays at the Kiste jazz club in Stuttgart . On her second album Geenius Monday ( HGBS , 2010) she can be heard with numerous musicians from the Stuttgart scene (such as Herbert Joos , Andi Maile , Jochen Feucht and Fola Dada ). Her album Password: I Love Jazz followed in 2015 . She is also part of Frank Kuruc's quartet and Barbara Bürkle's band . Gee Hye Lee received the Baden-Württemberg Jazz Prize in 2012 for her playing, which is “technically brilliant and characterized by the highest musical expression”.
