Paul Schwarz (musician)

Paul Schwarz (born March 8, 1946 ) is a German jazz musician (piano, also church organ ) and composer.

Live and act

Between 1967 and 1974, Schwarz studied church music and mathematics at the Eberhard Karls University in Tübingen . During this time he was already working as a freelance pianist in the field of chamber music, song accompaniment and theater music from 1970. Since 1974 he has devoted himself increasingly to jazz and popular music; he appeared regularly in band projects with Herbert Joos and then with Michael Sell . He also played with the Hans Koller Brass Band and repeatedly presented himself in various constellations with Bernd Konrad from the duo to the Baden-Württemberg all-star ensemble "Südpool". He was also sent to Aarhus to represent Germany at the jazz workshop of the European Broadcasting Union . Schwarz performed at festivals in almost all European countries; since 1976 he has been touring Asia, Africa and the USA with big bands and combos from Baden-Württemberg.

Schwarz is also active as a composer outside of the jazz area, where he wrote numerous pieces for two to twelve players in the jazz area; Among other things, he published the following pieces: “Concertino for marimbaphone and chamber orchestra” (1984), “Piano / Orgel Solowerke” (1985–1988), “Suite 11–88 for percussion, synthesizer & 11 pianos” (1998), “Meditations on B . "(Organ & Percussion) 1997," Soundspace for 2 percussionists, synthesizer and octophonic mix "(1998). He has recorded more than twenty albums with various ensembles, most recently in 2006 with the recording “ Poulenc meets Jazz” with Gregor and Veit Hübner and the Württemberg Chamber Choir .

Schwarz initially taught piano and jazz theory at the Stuttgart University of Music and Performing Arts and now teaches at the Trossingen University of Music .
