Andrew Norman (born June 27, 1980 ) is an English snooker player .

Career

After Norman had won the English U17 championship in 1997, he was able to secure a ticket for the Snooker Main Tour in 2001 with his victory in the English U21 championship and second place in the prize money ranking of the Challenge Tour 2000/01 .

His debut season 2001/02 with the professionals was initially unsuccessful and he had to accept many first round defeats in the qualifications for the ranked tournaments. It was only when he qualified for the last tournament of the season, the 2002 Snooker World Cup , that things went much better for him and he won his first three qualifying games. Only in the round of the last 64 did he finally have to admit defeat to Ian McCulloch . His second season was similar, again at the end of the season he achieved his best result of the season by reaching the last 64 in qualifying for the World Cup.

One season later he also managed to reach the last 64 at the LG Cup and the Irish Masters with three victories in qualification, but this time he suffered a first-round defeat in qualifying for the World Cup. Due to his slow advancement in the snooker world rankings, he was only allowed to enter the ranking tournaments of the 2003/04 season one qualifying round later. At the Welsh Open he almost made it into the finals of a major tournament for the first time, but after three wins he lost in the decisive game against Quinten Hann .

One season later, however, he managed to make it into the main round of major tournaments twice. At the Grand Prix he even won his opening match against Michael Judge and made it to the round of 16, where he lost to Michael Holt 4: 5. At the China Open , however, he had to accept a defeat against local wildcard player Yu Delu after successfully qualifying .

Highlights of his 2006/07 season were a round of 16 participation in the Grand Prix and a final round participation in the Northern Ireland Trophy . At the end of the season, he was 42nd in his highest world ranking position ever. The following season was not very successful with five first round defeats. His negative streak continued, so that he had to leave the professional tour after the end of the 2009/10 season .

During the 2010/11 season he played on the Players Tour Championship and made it to the quarter-finals there. At the end of the season he managed to re-qualify for the professional tour via the newly introduced Q School , but could not keep himself in the top 64 and dropped out again after a year.
