Yu Delu ( Chinese  于 德 陆 , Pinyin Yú Délù ; born October 11, 1987 in Shanxi Province ) is a Chinese snooker player .

Career

Beginnings

Yu Delu already attracted attention in his youth. After some national successes in 2005, he got one of the eight wildcards for the China Open . In his first international professional tournament, he defeated the Englishman Andrew Norman and moved into the main round. There he was defeated by Graeme Dott . He was represented in the tournament in the wildcard round for the next five years. In 2007 against Joe Jogia and in 2009 against Rod Lawler he was able to repeat the entry into the main tournament, but Ali Carter and again Graeme Dott prevented each progressing.

He was also a wildcard player for three years in a row at the Shanghai Masters , introduced in 2007, and was able to defeat Englishman Mike Dunn in 2007 before losing to his compatriot Ding Junhui . At the Wuxi Classic he was one of the four invited Chinese players twice, in 2010 he narrowly lost to Ryan Day , in 2011 he defeated Matthew Stevens before Ali Carter beat him.

The successes in addition to the Main Tour included the quarter-finals at the IBSF U-21 World Cup in 2007 and silver and gold at the East Asian Games in 2009 (in regular and six-red snooker ).

Professional years

Despite these achievements, Yu Delu failed to qualify for the Snooker Main Tour on a regular basis . In 2011, however, he got one of the four WPBSA tour wildcards . In qualifying for the first ranking tournament of the season, the Australian Goldfields Open 2011 , he scored three wins, including over Joe Swail and Joe Jogia . In qualifying for the German Masters 2012 , he defeated the top 20 player Jamie Cope and reached the final round of the tournament, where he first survived the wildcard round and also beat Ding Junhui in the first round and thus made it to the second round. He was also very successful at the Players Tour Championship and reached the quarterfinals of the second and fourth tournaments with victories over several top 50 players. In the last three tournaments, including the World Cup , he reached the fourth qualifying round. He finished the season in 58th place in the world rankings.

In the 2012/13 season he could not quite repeat his successes, but he continued to collect points and temporarily advanced to 46th place. A narrow 9:10 defeat by Mark King at the 2013 World Snooker Championship in the final qualifying round prevented his first entry into the Crucible Theater . The following year he initially only convinced at the Shanghai Masters , where he reached the main tournament and lost just under 4: 5 to Shaun Murphy . Then he reached a semi-finals for the first time at the PTC tournament in Dongguan . In the PTC final , he then defeated Liang Wenbo and Ronnie O'Sullivan and only lost in the quarter-finals to eventual winner Barry Hawkins . He then reached the second round at the China Open .

At the 2014 World Cup , he failed for the third time in the round of 48. The following season, he defeated reigning World Champion Stuart Bingham in Round 2 of the 2015 International Championship before he was eliminated. He only got further at the Welsh Open , where O'Sullivan stopped him in the round of 16. Otherwise he never got past the second round in any tournament, which caused him to lose ground in the world rankings. As 63rd, he just managed to qualify for the Main Tour for the following year.
