Josh Boileau (born July 2, 1995 in Newbridge ) is an Irish snooker player .

Career

Beginnings

In August 2010 Josh Boileau moved into the final round of the U21 World Cup for the first time and was defeated in the round of 32 to the Scot Rhys Clark . In October 2011 he took part in the Alex Higgins International Trophy and thus for the first time in a tournament of the Players Tour Championship . However, he was eliminated in the preliminary round after a 4-3 win against Patrick Wallace with 2-4 against Jamie Walker . At the U21 European Championship in 2012 he reached the round of 16 and lost there just 3: 4 against Mateusz Baranowski from Poland . In May 2012 he tried to qualify for the Main Tour via the Q School , but did not get past the semi-finals in the third tournament and thus missed the qualification.

After Boileau was knocked out against Rhys Clark in the last sixteen at the U21 European Championship 2013 , he again missed the Main Tour qualification at Q School 2013 with the semi-final against Ashley Carty . A few days later he was able to qualify for a world ranking tournament for the first time at the Australian Goldfields Open via the Q School's Order of Merit , but in the first round he lost 5-1 to the Chinese Li Hang . In the preliminary round of the Bluebell Wood Open 2013 he was eliminated again against Rhys Clark. In December 2013, he lost to Yu Delu in the qualifying round of the 2014 Haikou World Open .

In March 2014 Boileau managed to get into the final of the U21 European Championship after victories against Andreas Ploner , Lukas Kleckers and Ashley Carty , in which he was defeated by the Englishman Oliver Lines with 1: 6. At the U21 World Cup in 2014 he also reached the final, which he lost 3: 8 to Hossein Vafaei . In June 2014 he made it to the final round of the men's European championship for the first time, where he was eliminated in the round of 16 against Ploner. At the Riga Open 2014 he moved into the main round of a PTC tournament for the first time, followed by a 4-0 first-round defeat against Aditya Mehta . After he was eliminated in the preliminary round at the Paul Hunter Classic 2014 , he also reached the round of 128 at the Bulgarian Open and the Lisbon Open 2014 and at the Gdynia Open 2015 .

At the U21 European Championship 2015 , Boileau was eliminated in the round of 32 against Rodion Judin . The round of 16 followed in April 2015 at the EBSA Amateur Play Offs . A month later he did not get past the round of 32 at the Q School and thus missed the Main Tour qualification again. In July 2015 he reached the semi-finals of the U21 World Cup and was defeated there by the Welshman Jamie Rhys Clarke 3: 7. After he was eliminated in the preliminary round at the Riga Open and the Paul Hunter Classic , he moved into the round of 128 at the Ruhr Open and the Bulgarian Open 2015 , where he lost to Mark Allen and Stuart Bingham respectively .

Professional years

In February 2016, Boileau made it into the final at the U21 European Championship after victories against Alexander Ursenbacher , Andres Petrov and Joe O'Connor , in which he defeated the Englishman Brandon Sargeant 6-1 and thus won the Main Tour seasons 2016/17 and 2017/18 qualified.

Season 2016/17

Boileau's first professional season began with a 4-1 defeat in qualifying for the Riga Masters to Chen Zhe . In qualifying for the World Open , he lost 5-1 to Matthew Stevens . The Paul Hunter Classic was followed by a 4-0 defeat against Ricky Walden in the first round . At the Shanghai Masters he lost 5-2 to Chris Wakelin in qualifying . His first professional victory was in qualifying for the European Masters , where he defeated Jimmy White 2: 4. In the first main round he lost 4-2 to Liang Wenbo . At the English Open he lost 4-2 to Zhang Anda in the first round . At the Northern Ireland Open he defeated Mike Dunn 4: 3 and Hamza Akbar 4: 2 and was only eliminated in the round of 32 with 1: 4 against Kurt Maflin . At the UK Championship he lost 6-2 to Marco Fu in the first round, followed by a 4-3 defeat to Yu Delu at the Scottish Open in the first round . In the first qualifying round for the German Masters he lost 5-1 to Noppon Saengkham . At the Welsh Open he won 4-1 against Hammad Miah and surprisingly 4-2 against Shaun Murphy , before losing 4-0 to Robert Milkins . In the shoot-out he lost to Zhang Yong with 11:58 on points. At the Pro / Am tournament Gibraltar Open he lost 4-0 to Elliot Slessor . At the China Open he lost 3-5 against Matthew Stevens in qualifying. In the first qualifying round of the World Snooker Championship he lost 9:10 to Gary Wilson . Boileau finished the season at number 115 in the world .

Season 2017/18

The 2017/18 season began for Boileau with several defeats in his opening games. At the Riga Masters he lost 4-0 against Robin Hull from Finland . In qualifying for the China Championship , he lost 5-2 to Sam Baird . At the Paul Hunter Classi he lost 4-2 to the Cypriot Michael Georgiou in the first round . His first win of the season was in qualifying for the Indian Open , where he defeated David Grace 4-3. In the first main round he was defeated by Sean O'Sullivan 4: 3. At the World Open he lost 5-2 to Jamie Jones in qualifying, followed by a 4-1 defeat against Chris Wakelin at the European Masters . At the English Open he lost 4-0 to David Gilbert in the first round . In qualifying for the International Championship he lost 6-2 to Andrew Higginson and in qualifying for the Shanghai Masters he lost 5-1 to Ryan Day . At the Northern Ireland Open he lost 2: 4 to Ashley Hugill in the first round , and at the UK Championship he also lost 2: 6 to Graeme Dott in round 1 . At the Scottish Open he lost 4-2 to Scott Donaldson . His second win of the season was in the first qualifying round for the German Masters , where he defeated Kurt Maflin 5: 4 and then lost 5: 0 to Mark Davis . In the shoot-out he defeated Daniel Ward, but then lost to Cao Yupeng in the second round . At the Welsh Open he was defeated by Luca Brecel 2: 4. At the China Open he lost 4-6 to Barry Hawkins in qualifying . In the first qualifying round for the World Snooker Championship he lost 8:10 to Ken Doherty . He finished the season on world number 111 , which was not enough for a qualification for the next season.
