Both Ronnie O'Sullivan and Kyren Wilson had been in a final that season and both had lost. O'Sullivan had the better start of the match, Wilson was able to hold against it at 1-1 and 3-2, then the five-time world champion pulled away 6-2 at the end of the session. In the evening, O'Sullivan got the first contested frame and then finished with two century breaks to a clear 9-2 victory. For Wilson it was the third consecutive defeat in the final.
