Rhys Clark (born August 17, 1994 ) is a Scottish snooker player .

Career

In August 2010 Rhys Clark reached the round of 16 of the U21 World Cup and was defeated there by the Belgian Julius Grauls 4: 5. At the 2011 U21 European Championship , he reached the quarter-finals. In May 2012 he first took part in the Q School , a qualifying competition for the Main Tour , but did not make it past the third round in any of the three tournaments. In the 2012/13 season he took part in four tournaments of the Players Tour Championship and made it into the round of 128 three times.

At Q School 2013, he again missed qualifying for the Main Tour. In the third tournament he lost in the semifinals of his group 3: 4 against his compatriot Fraser Patrick . However , he was able to take part in several world ranking tournaments in the 2013/14 season through the Order of Merit of the Q School . In June 2013 he reached the second round of the European amateur championship for the first time . In early August 2013 he was eliminated in the first round of the qualifying tournaments of the Shanghai Masters and the Indian Open . Also in his following five participations in ranking tournaments, he remained without a win, where he was directly qualified for the main round at the UK Championship and was eliminated there 6-0 against Ronnie O'Sullivan . His first win came in qualifying for the 2014 World Cup , when he beat Mike Dunn 10-2 in the first round . In the second qualifying round, however, he had to admit defeat Matthew Selt 6:10.

After failing to make it through the quarter-finals of his group at Q School 2014, he only took part in two world ranking tournaments in the 2014/15 season . At the Indian Open 2015 he moved into the round of 64 after victories against Kurt Maflin and Pankaj Advani , in which he lost 2: 4 to Chris Wakelin . In qualifying for the 2015 World Cup , he was eliminated in the first round against Craig Steadman . In May 2015, Clark qualified at Q School with a 4-1 win against Leo Fernandez from Ireland for the 2015/16 and 2016/17 Main Tour seasons .

Rhys Clark started his first season as a professional with a 5-1 win against amateur Grant Miles in qualifying for the 2015 Australian Goldfields Open . In the second qualifying round, they lost 5-1 to Li Hang . After remaining without a win at the following three world ranking tournaments, he won the qualification for the German Masters 2016 in the first round 5: 4 against David Grace and was then eliminated by Judd Trump . At the China Open 2016 he reached the round of 32 and lost to the Englishman Alfie Burden 4: 5. In qualifying for the World Cup , he was eliminated in the first round against David Gilbert . On the Players Tour Championship he had reached the round of 64 three times this season.

In the 2016/17 season, Clark remained without a win in the first four ranking tournaments, with the Paul Hunter Classic reaching the second round because his first-round opponent Robin Hull did not play. A few weeks after he was eliminated in the second qualifying round of the Shanghai Masters , he qualified for the main round of the European Masters 2016 by beating Alex Borg and Peter Lines . There he moved with a 4-1 first round win against David Grace for the first time in the round of 16 of a professional tournament and then lost it with 1: 4 against Neil Robertson . A little later he also reached the round of 16 at the English Open and was eliminated there against Stuart Bingham . At the UK Championship 2016 he made it to the round of 64, in which he had to admit defeat to Ronnie O'Sullivan 6-0. In the further course of the season he reached the round of 64 three times (at the Scottish Open 2016 , the Snooker Shoot-Out 2017 and the China Open 2017 ) and once the round of 32 (at the Gibraltar Open 2017 ). In qualifying for the 2017 World Cup , he first defeated Wayne Townsend 10: 1, before being eliminated in the second qualifying round 6:10 against David Gilbert. At the end of the season, Clark finished 75th in the world rankings and thus lost his Main Tour place. About the one-year ranking, in which he came in 68th place, but he qualified again directly for the two following Main Tour seasons.
