Matthew Selt (born March 7, 1985 ) is an English snooker player .

Career

Selt turned pro in 2000 and first played on the Snooker Main Tour in the 2002/03 season . He had to leave this again until he qualified again for the Main Tour in the 2006/07 season as seventh on the PIOS Tour.

At the Shanghai Masters in 2009, he won all of his qualifying games for the first time and took part in the finals of a world ranking tournament. There he defeated the local wildcard player Shi Hanqing , but then suffered a first round defeat against John Higgins . He also made it to the finals at the 2009 Grand Prix , where he lost to Stephen Hendry .

His best result so far in a world ranking tournament was the quarter-finals of the Australian Goldfields Open in 2011. After victories over Higgins and Hendry, he was there for the first time in the last 8 of such a tournament, in which he was defeated by Shaun Murphy . The following year he made it to the quarter-finals again in Australia.

His highest prize money to date was achieved in 2015 by moving into the quarter-finals of the UK Championship, in which he was defeated by Mark Selby 6-1.

In December 2014, Selt reached his first final in a professional tournament at the Lisbon Open , a minor world ranking tournament, where he was defeated 2: 4 by Stephen Maguire .

In March 2019 he won his first world ranking tournament with the Indian Open .
