Main round
The main round games were played in Bendigo from June 29th to July 5th . At the beginning of the first tournament of the season there were several big surprises. World champion Stuart Bingham had a false start, as did local favorite Neil Robertson , who last played in the final twice at his home tournament. With Marco Fu , Mark Allen and Shaun Murphy, three other top 10 players were eliminated in the opening round. For world number one Mark Selby , the end came just one lap later. His conqueror Jamie Jones then reached the semi-finals, in which he was defeated by John Higgins . With Stephen Maguire , a second Scot was in the semi-finals, he had defending champion Judd Trump defeated. However, a Scottish final prevented Martin Gould , who clearly defeated Maguire. For the Englishman it was the first time that he reached the final of a classic ranking tournament, only in the final tournament of the Players Tour he had been a finalist in a tournament for full ranking points in 2011.
final
The match between John Higgins and Martin Gould , who faced each other for the first time in a final, was even. In the afternoon, the Scot took a 2-0 lead before Gould turned the game with a Century and pulled away to 4-2. Higgins, for his part, made the connection with a Centuryden and then equalized at the 4-4 break. In the evening it was again the Scot who won the first two frames and again Gould came up with a century break. After that, however, Higgins was always able to hold a lead until the Englishman managed to equalize in a contested 16th frame. In the decisive frame, however, he could not use his first chance, Higgins, on the other hand, won the game in one shot with a break of 89 points.
