Adam Duffy (born March 30, 1989 ) is an English snooker player .

Career

Duffy won the Paul Hunter Scholarship in 2009 , which gave him a year of free training at the Sheffield Snooker Academy.

He missed the qualification for the Snooker Main Tour 2009/10 via the PIOS Tour, with 41st place, relatively clearly.

The next season he took part in the first five events of the new Players Tour Championship in Sheffield . He reached once the round of 32 and once the round of 64, but failed in the other three tournaments in the first round. He managed to get a ticket for the professional tour in the Q School , which was also newly introduced this season . At the end of May 2011 he secured the ticket for the 2011/12 season in the third tournament with a 4-2 win against former professional David Gray .

First attempt

His best results in his debut season were advancing to the round of 16 at the second PTC event , reaching the fourth qualifying round at the 2012 Welsh Open and the 2012 World Snooker Championship . At the end of his first season he reached number 62 in the world rankings and was able to secure another year on the tour.

In the 2012/13 season he never managed more than one win, but he was often eliminated in the first game. At the end of the season he was able to improve slightly to 60th place in the world rankings. For placing in the top 64, Duffy was also eligible for the next season .

With the 2013/14 season, the world rankings were updated after each tournament. So at the beginning of the season he was able to improve slightly to his highest rank 58. At the Wuxi Classic he won his qualifying match, but then had to admit defeat to Lu Ning in the wildcard round . In qualifying for the next tournament, the Australian Open , he was able to win his opening match, but two more victories were missing for the main round. For the main round of the Shanghai Masters , he just failed to qualify after winning two matches. He was eliminated 4-5 by Ali Carter in the fourth and final qualifying round . At the Ruhr Open , the fifth tournament of the European Tour of the Players Tour Championship , he was eliminated in the second round. He was able to qualify for the International Championship , but then lost his opening match in China against Marco Fu . His last win of the season was in the first round of the UK Championship at the end of November 2013 . There he won 6: 5 against Barry Pinches . In all other tournaments of the season he failed in his first game. In the course of the season he slipped further and further down the ranking and ended up in 91st place after the World Cup. So he failed to qualify for the next season of the Main Tour.

As an amateur

Duffy tried to re-qualify directly through the Q School . In the first tournament he lost in the first match. The second tournament was more successful, but two wins were missing to qualify for the Main Tour. He had to admit defeat to Lee Walker , one of the eventual winners, 3: 4.

Although not qualified for the 2014/15 season, he was invited to qualify in some world ranking tournaments. At the Indian Open 2015 he survived qualification and the wildcard round and reached the second round of the tournament. In qualifying for the 2015 World Snooker Championship , Duffy was the only one of 25 amateur players to reach the third and final qualifying round. In this he was defeated by Jamie Jones with 8:10. In addition to the world ranking tournaments, he played in all tournaments of the European Tour. In five of the six tournaments he reached the main round. His best result was the 2014 Paul Hunter Classic when he reached the round of 32. At the second tournament of the European Tour in Germany, the Ruhr Open 2014 , the second main round.

At the end of this season he tried to qualify for the Main Tour again through the Q School. In the first qualifying tournament he failed in the final game 3: 4 to Eden Sharav . After two wins, he had to admit defeat to one of the eventual winners in the second tournament .

He took part in all world rankings of the 2015/16 season , with the exception of the World Grand Prix . At the beginning of the season he came in qualifying for the Australian Open up to the third qualifying round. At the UK Championship 2015 he won a 6-2 win against Ding Junhui in the opening match , but then had to admit defeat to Joe Swail 5-6 in the second round . In the other world ranking tournaments he could not win a game. In the European Tour he came in three of the six tournaments in the main round, but then could not win any more games. The Gdynia Open 2016 was an exception , here he got into the second main round without a fight, but here he couldn't prevail either.

Second attempt as a professional

In May 2016, Duffy made the third attempt to re-qualify through Q School. In both the first tournament and the second tournament , he reached the group semi- finals. With that he missed the direct qualification, but he secured one of the four tour places in the "Order of Merit" of the best players in the Q-School overall ranking. So he had the professional status again until 2018.

Season 2016/17

Duffy immediately reached the main round of the Riga Masters , the first tournament of the 2016/17 season . He defeated Robbie Williams 4-2 in qualifying and lost in the first main round 3-4 against Fergal O'Brien from Ireland . The Indian Open and the World Open he missed by qualifying defeats to Dominic Dale and Stuart Carrington . At the Pro / Am tournament Paul Hunter Classic , Duffy survived the first round thanks to a 4-0 win against Michael Williams , but then lost 4-1 against Lee Walker . The Shanghai Masters were a great success for him , where he was only eliminated in the fourth and final qualifying round. He defeated Wang Yuchen 5-1, then Thepchaiya Un-Nooh 5-2 and Mark Joyce 5-4 before he was eliminated 4-5 by Robert Milkins . At the European Masters he made it to the main round with a 4-0 win against Gareth Allen , where he failed 4-0 to Mark Davis . In the first Home Nations Series tournament, the English Open , Duffy lost 4-1 to Anthony Hamilton in the first round, and Duffy missed the following main round of the International Championship with a 6-3-3 against Matthew Stevens . He survived the first round of the Northern Ireland Open with a 4-2 win over Michael Wild , then he lost in the decider , 3: 4, to Peter Ebdon . His compatriot David Gilbert defeated him in the first round of the UK Championship and also at the Scottish Open was over for him in the first round after losing to Joe Perry . He narrowly missed the main round of the German Masters , after defeating Mei Xiwen , he lost 2: 5 to Mark Allen . At the Welsh Open he lost to Thor Chuan Leong in the first round and in the snooker shoot-out he lost very nearly 43:50 on points against Mark King . In the last three tournaments Duffy lost each of his first games; at the Gibraltar Open in the first round with 1: 4 against Mark Selby , at the China Open with 1: 5 against Kurt Maflin and in the first qualifying round for the Snooker World Championship with 6:10 against Alfie Burden . He finished the season at number 113 in the world .

Season 2017/18

The 2017/18 season started worse for him than the previous one. He lost his qualifying games for the Riga Masters and the China Championship against Noppon Saengkham with 1: 4 and against Martin Gould with 1: 5 and lost in the first round of the Paul Hunter Classics against Michael White with 3: 4. The Indian Open was also unsuccessful; he survived the qualification against Noppon Saengkham, but then gave up without a fight against Mark King . Saengkham, who has been on the tour continuously since 2013, also defeated him in qualifying for the World Open . He survived qualifying for the European Masters with a 4-2 win against Liam Highfield , but then lost 4-1 against Judd Trump . Two more defeats followed in the first round of the English Open with 2: 4 against Jimmy Robertson and in the qualification for the International Championship with 2: 6 against Liang Wenbo . At the Shanghai Masters he was able to defeat Noppon Saengkham 5: 4, but then lost to the Chinese Mei Xiwen 4: 5. Surprisingly, he also survived the first round of the Northern Ireland Open , where he defeated Rory McLeod 4-2. But in the second round he was defeated 1: 4 by Anthony McGill . At the UK Championship he had to take a white wash in the first round , Dominic Dale defeated him 0: 6; he also lost the first round of the Scottish Open to 0, this time 4-0 to Mike Dunn . Five more defeats followed: A 3-5 against Judd Trump in the qualification for the German Masters , 31:34 on points against David Gilbert in the first round of the shoot-out , a 2-4 against Rory McLeod in the first round of the Welsh Open , a 1: 4 against Joe Perry in the first round of the Gibraltar Open and a 3: 6 against John Higgins in the qualification for the China Open . Now the snooker world championship followed , to which he almost qualified. In the first two rounds he defeated the much better seeded Englishmen Mark Joyce and Matthew Selt with 10: 4 and 10: 6, before he lost 1:10 in the final qualifying round to Xiao Guodong . Duffy finished the season on world number 87, which was not enough for a qualification for the next season .

Repeated amateur time

Duffy immediately tried to re-qualify through Q School. In the first tournament he was defeated in the round of 16 to the eventual group winner Sam Baird , previously he had defeated David Grace and Steven Hallworth , among others . In the second tournament he slipped just past his goal, losing 4-0 to Craig Steadman in the group final . Previously, Barry Pinches , Richard Somauroo and Kishan had defeated Hirani , but he had no chance against the also ex-professional Steadman. In the third tournament he lost in round 4 to the finalist Kuldesh Johal , so Duffy could not qualify as a professional. Nevertheless, he took part in qualifying for the Riga Masters , where Liang Wenbo defeated him 4-0. Duffy also took part in qualifying for the World Open , losing 3: 5 to Zhou Yuelong . Duffy later took part in the Challenge Tour 2019/20 and qualified for the play-offs with a tournament victory. There he missed qualifying for the Snooker Main Tour because of a 4-0 defeat by Allan Taylor in the final.
