finalCao Yupeng was the surprise in the final. Prior to this season, he had never made it past the quarter-finals of a ranking tournament in six years on the Main Tour. After the semi-finals at the European Masters two months earlier, he improved again at the Scottish Open. Neil Robertson, on the other hand, had a weaker phase of his career behind him and had just dropped out of the top 16 in the world rankings , but had recently played more successfully again. But for now, Cao picked up where he left off in the semifinals against Judd Trump . He took the lead 3: 1 and 5: 3, with 7 breaks of more than 50 points. In the evening the series continued and he expanded the lead to 8: 4. So close to the win, the mid-session break came at the wrong time. From then on, the Chinese played nervously and gave away numerous balls that he had previously punched. Robertson also had a hard time with higher breaks, but despite the tension he proved to be more nervous and caught up frame by frame. The 16th frame was characteristic of the course, in which Cao had the chance to win the frame and thus the tournament twice, on pink and on black, but both times got stuck in his pocket and thus enabled the Australian to equalize to 8: 8. Encouraged by the race to catch up, he then seized the opportunity in the decision-making frame and scored a break of 59 points, which then brought him the 9: 8 win with the fifth frame win in a row.
Century breaksDuring the tournament, a total of 63 Centuries were played by 39 players. Cao Yupeng achieved the first maximum break of his career in round 1 . After Ding Junhui and Liang Wenbo , he was only the third player from China to do this. It was the 134th official 147-point break in snooker. With 11 century breaks in the tournament, Neil Robertson repeated the performance of Marco Fu from the previous year.
