Career

Youth and years as an amateur

Elliot Slessor got a snooker table for Christmas when he was eight and got enthusiastic about the sport afterwards. At the age of 16 he took part in two tournaments of the Players Tour Championship , which is open to amateurs, for the first time and in the spring of 2012 played in the Q-School tournaments for a place on the professional tour, but was eliminated early in each case. In the PTC Tour 2012/13 he gained further experience and was able to beat two professionals at the Antwerp Open 2012 and the Bulgarian Open 2012 with Craig Steadman and Ryan Day . In March 2013, he entered the U21 European Championship in Serbia and reached the quarter-finals. Two months later he took part in the Q School again and defeated Chris Wakelin in his group final in the first tournament . He qualified for the following two seasons of the Snooker Main Tour .

2013/14 and 2014/15 season

His first professional year in the 2013/14 season started successfully. At the Australian Goldfields Open he won two qualifying games and at the Indian Open he reached the main tournament with a victory over Kurt Maflin . He was twice in the last 64 in world rankings. In the remainder of the season he otherwise lost all qualifying games in the first round. Only at the PTC tournaments did he collect a few points with four first round victories, which brought him to 112th place in the world rankings at the end of the season . In his second year he survived two qualifying rounds again at the Australian Goldfields Open . With the addition of the two seasons, he made it into the top 100 . At the Bulgarian Open 2014 he then reached the round of 32 and at the Xuzhou Open 2015 even the second round, his best result in a minor ranking tournament. In the two-year ranking at the end of the 2014/15 season, this only brought him to 91st place in the world rankings. He lost his professional status and also failed to re-qualify through Q School. At the second Q-School tournament, he was unlucky enough to get caught in a traffic jam while driving. He lost three frames without a fight due to being late and finally the game 1: 4 against Welshman Alex Taubman.

Season 2016/17

Slessor qualified for the 2016/17 snooker season and the 2017/18 season via the ESBA Amateur Play Offs . One of the highlights of the 2016/17 season was the 2017 Indian Open , where he qualified for the first main round with a 4-2 win over Thepchaiya Un-Nooh . There he was subject to Pankay Advani with a white wash . At the English Open 2017 he was able to bring down Sam Baird 4-3 in his first round match. In the second round he then lost 3: 4 to Jak Jones .

Also at the 4th tournament of the Home Nations Series , the Welsh Open 2017 , he survived the first round with a surprising 4: 3 win over Mark Williams , but then lost 2: 4 to Jimmy Robertson . At the snooker shoot-out 2017 he lost again in the first round to Jimmy Robertson, at 17:94.

At the Gibraltar Open 2017 he won his first round match with a white wash against Josh Boileau and then retired 2-4 against Allan Taylor . Elliot Slessor ended the season at number 114 in the world .

At the 2017 China Championship he won 5-0 in qualifying against Jamie Jones , but lost 3-5 to Alan McManus in the first round .

At the Indian Open 2017 he defeated Matthew Stevens 4-2 in qualifying , which brought him to the first main round. There Alan McManus defeated 4: 3, in the further course of the tournament then Joe Perry (4: 3) and Shaun Murphy (4: 1) and was only eliminated in the quarterfinals with 2: 4 against Mark Kin.

He also caused surprises at the Northern Ireland Open 2017 : thanks to a 4-0 win over Kurt Dunham and a 4-2 win over Kurt Maflin , he reached the third round, where he met co-favorite Ronnie O'Sullivan . Elliot Slessor managed a small miracle and defeated O'Sullivan 4-1. In the last sixteen he defeated Sam Craigie 4-3 and got into the quarterfinals, where he defeated the Chinese Li Yuan 5-4.
