The Australian Goldfields Open 2014 was a snooker tournament as part of the Snooker Main Tour of the 2014/15 season , which was held from June 30th to July 6th, 2014 in the Bendigo Stadium in Bendigo ( Australia ).
Last year's winner Marco Fu did not defend his title. Last year's finalist Neil Robertson , who had won the Wuxi Classic the week before , made it to the final again, but the local hero failed to win at home in the fourth attempt. He lost 5: 9 to Judd Trump , who celebrated his fourth victory in a major world ranking tournament.
Prize money and world ranking points
The prize money increased by 55,000 Australian dollars compared to the previous year , and the winner received 5,000 A $ more. From this season there were no more world ranking points; the prize money now determines the world ranking position. Thus the importance of the tournament results from the prize money. The Australian Goldfields Open was ahead of the events of the European and Asian Tour, but behind all other world ranking tournaments.
