David Morris (born November 27, 1988 in Kilkenny ) is an Irish snooker player .

Career

Morris was successful at a young age, winning several national championships in his age groups. At the age of 14 he made it to the round of 16 of the U19 European Championship in 2002. A year later he repeated this result, and another year later it was the quarter-finals.

From 2004 to 2006 he won the Irish championship three times in a row and was then nominated by the Irish Federation for the Snooker Main Tour . He played his first professional season in 2006/07 well enough to defend his place on the professional tour. In 2007 he also won the Irish Classic , which was not a Main Tour tournament with an impact on the world snooker rankings .

The following season he made his best run in a ranking tournament at the UK Championship 2007 when he survived three qualifying rounds and was only defeated in the round of 48 to Ian McCulloch . He repeated this success at the Shanghai Masters 2008 and the Bahrain Championship 2008, where he was able to enter a qualifying round later due to his improved world rankings.

In the years that followed, his performance stagnated somewhat. At the World Snooker Championship 2010 he once again managed to reach the last 48 round, but fell back a few places in the world rankings. He was among the top 32 of a major tournament for the first time at the World Open 2010 , where there was played directly in knockout mode (i.e. no qualifying rounds). His best result in the Players Tour Championship 2011/12 he achieved at the Antwerp Open 2011 , where he reached the round of 16 after winning three games. There he was defeated by Jack Lisowski .

After qualifying for the Main Tour via the third Q-School tournament in 2013 , he made it to the quarter-finals at the first fully-fledged ranking tournament of the 2013/14 season - the Wuxi Classic .

At the end of the 2015/16 season he dropped to 69th place in the world rankings . Lying outside the top 64, he lost his place on the Main Tour.
