Irish Snooker Championship
The Irish Snooker Championship is a competition to determine the national champion of snooker billiards in the Republic of Ireland .
history
Ireland, like many countries in the British sphere of influence, has a long tradition of billiards and snooker. The first national championship was played in 1927. Because of the division of the Irish island into the Republic of Ireland and British Northern Ireland , there were players who competed in both championships and also won. At times, however, an all-Irish championship was held.
Not to be confused with the Irish Professional Championship , which was part of the professional tour .
Title holder
Record title holder is Seamus Fenning , who won the tournament seven times between 1933 and 1955 and was in the final three more times. Martin McCrudden and David Morris were each four times Irish champions.
Only sporadic data are available prior to 1980. In 1945 there were two tournaments, one in February and one in November. The superscript number indicates the number of titles for multiple winners.
