Austrian Snooker Championship

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Austrian Snooker Championship is a competition to determine the national champion in the snooker billiard variant in Austria .

history

In 1990 the Austrian Snooker & Billiards Association (ÖSBV) was founded and the following year there was the first Austrian championship. The first title went to Gerfried Kotzinger from Vienna. Players from the capital dominated the first two decades, only in 2007 a player from Styria won once. The record holder of the title from this time is Hans Nirnberger, who became champion five times between 2000 and 2005. In 1992 a women's championship was introduced, the first female title holder Christine Miller is also the record champion with six wins. The first junior championship followed in 1993. Initially there was only the under-19 age group, in 2006 it was divided into U 16 and U 21. Further championships are also a Masters (since 2005) and a doubles competition (since 1995). Since 2008 the general class has been called the Austrian State Championships .
