Florian Nüßle (born December 18, 2001 in Graz ) is an Austrian snooker player . In 2016, at the age of 16, he was the youngest Austrian national champion .
Career
National tournaments
Florian Nüßle was already interested in snooker as a child and was already playing with a standing aid at the pool table as a five-year-old. He also played soccer for five years in the youth team of Sturm Graz , was successful in golf and was part of the national youth team there, but ultimately decided on snooker. He set himself the goal of going to England after graduating from high school to start a professional career.
In 2007 he took part in the Styrian junior championship, made it to the final straight away and won all titles in the U19 and U21 classes from 2009 onwards. He won his first national title at the age of 13 in the U16 age group and defended the title in the following two years. In 2015 he won the U21 title at the same time and defended it in the following years. In the absence of the defending champion Andreas Ploner , he won the official state championship title for the first time in 2016 at the age of 16 and was number 1 in the national rankings. In 2017 he was again in the final against Ploner and defended his title with a 5-2 win.
International tournaments
After his first national youth title, he also took part in junior European and world championships from 2015 . He almost always survived the group stage, but the main tournament ended in the round of 16 at the latest. The breakthrough came in 2017 when he reached the quarter-finals at the U18 World Cup and even the semi- finals at the General World Cup , which he lost 4: 7 to the later amateur world champion Pankaj Advani . At the U18 European Championship in 2018 , he was in an international final for the first time and was defeated by the Welsh title holder Jackson Page 3: 5.
In 2017 he also took part for the first time in the Paul Hunter Classic (PHC), a professional season tournament open to amateurs . This year he still missed the qualification for the main tournament, but in 2018 he reached the first main round, but had no chance against the experienced professional Rod Lawler at 0: 4. In the same year he won the side event for the PHC with a 3-1 victory over the professional player Elliot Slessor .
