Rodney "Rod" Lawler (born July 12, 1971 in Liverpool ) is an English snooker player .

Career

Lawler turned pro on the Snooker Main Tour in 1990 . One of his first major successes was reaching the final of the Benson & Hedges Championship in 1994, in which he was defeated by Mark Williams from Welsh . In 1996 he then managed his only final participation in a full ranking tournament at the International Open . There he was clearly defeated by John Higgins 3: 9. At the 1996 World Cup , he reached the second round by beating John Parrott in the preliminary round. As a result, he reached 20th place in the world rankings for the 1996/97 season .

However, he could not hold this position, he fell out of the top 32 again in the 1998/99 season . Since then, he has been ranked between 40 and 60 in the world rankings, without reaching any of the top ranks in world ranking tournaments.

For the 2012/13 season he missed qualification as 73rd in the world rankings, but he was able to secure a place on the Main Tour again through the Q School . At the very first tournament of the new season, the Wuxi Classic 2012 , he reached the finals, where he beat world number four Stephen Maguire before he was eliminated in the second round.

His first tournament success on the Main Tour came in 2012 at the third UK tournament of the new Players Tour Championship series . In addition to world number eight Stephen Lee , he defeated other top 32 players and finally Marco Fu 4-2 in the final . The following year he was again in a PTC semi-final at the Munich Open . In 2014, 20 years after his only final, he reached the semi- finals of a full ranking tournament at the German Masters . Later that year he was again in the semifinals at the Paul Hunter Classic . Overall, this brought him back to the top 32 in the world for the first time in his 25th professional season.
