Preliminary round

The qualification this year started a day earlier than in previous years, half of the games in the first qualifying round took place on Wednesday evening in the town hall in Fürth. Rounds two and three were then completed by Thursday evening.

109 players competed in the qualification, 27 of them were automatically seeded for the second round. After three rounds, there were 17 players left to complete the field in the main tournament.

28 players from Germany and six Austrians had registered for the qualification. Among them were the German master Lukas Kleckers and the Austrian master Andreas Ploner as well as ex-professional Patrick Einsle . Only Ploner and two German players reached the third round, all three were eliminated there. Thus the Belgian Hans Blanckaert was the only one who did not come from the British Isles to the main tournament.

All games were played in the best of 7 frames mode.

Quarter-finals to finals

O'Sullivan conqueror Tian Pengfei , listed at number 116 in the world rankings , was the biggest surprise in the quarter-finals, even if it was over for him. He lost just as tightly 3: 4 as the world number one Mark Selby , who had won the first European Tour event in Riga two weeks earlier . So Judd Trump and Mark Allen remained the only top ten players in the tournament. They also prevailed in the semi-finals and moved into the final.

final

The very first frame of the final was very close: Judd Trump missed the decision, Allen was able to equalize on points and then punched the Respotted Black . It stayed close until the 2: 2, then the Northern Irish used a bad safety from Trump and got his third frame. Allen, who had given a 3-0 lead at the final in Riga two weeks earlier , did better this time and made the tournament victory perfect with a high break in the sixth frame.
